John Deere 9800 makes most sense for an operator who is willing to keep on top of daily checks rather than just add fuel and go. For mixed forage work, correct setup matters more than chasing maximum forward speed.

There is a solid, workmanlike feel to John Deere 9700, and that suits long harvesting days well. It is a much better proposition with documented maintenance than with low hours and an unknown history.

In the right crop, John Deere 9600 has enough reserve to keep a steady pace without feeling constantly stressed. The crop path handles a lot of material cleanly and the cab makes long shifts easier; it is simply too much machine for a weak trailer chain.
