The History of Steyr Tractors

In 1915, the Steyr factories introduced their first agricultural tractor to the market, ushering in the era of modern farming. Through persistent work and a commitment to excellence, on October 29, 1947, the first serially produced Steyr-Type 180 tractor rolled off the production line.
In the 1950s, the St. Valentin plant became part of Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG, and twenty years later, both the production line and the sales department for Steyr tractors were relocated there. Signing a licensing agreement with the Turkish company Donatim in 1978 and collaborating with the Finnish company Valmet in 1986 demonstrated Steyr’s significant commitment to the development of its products.
In the early 1990s, as a result of restructuring at Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG, the department responsible for tractor production became an independent company – Steyr Landmaschinentechnik GmbH, headquartered in St. Valentin. The company was acquired by Case Corporation in 1996 and renamed CASE-STEYR Landmaschinentechnik. The “Tractor of the Year” award given to the Steyr CVT with the S-matic continuously variable transmission at the Agritechnica trade fair in 1999 confirmed that Steyr tractors are highly modern machines.
