The History of Renault Tractors

Renault was a renowned French tractor manufacturer that enjoyed recognition among farmers for years. Although Renault tractors are no longer produced, they can still be found in fields. The company’s history dates back to 1919, when the first Renault GP tractor was created. Due to the brand’s dynamic development, production was moved to a modern facility in Le Mans in 1950. In 1987, the company acquired shares in Carraro Agritalia and started producing smaller tractors under the Renault brand. Collaboration with Massey Ferguson led to the establishment of a joint venture in Beauvais in 1994, focusing on the design and production of transmissions and axles, strengthening the brand’s position in the market. In the following years, models such as Ares and Atles were introduced to the market, gaining popularity due to their high performance and reliability. In 2003, 51% of shares in the Le Mans factory were acquired by the German manufacturer Claas. Although Renault tractors were initially produced there under the Claas brand, the new manufacturer later took full control of the factory, continuing the development and production of its own machinery.
