The History of Massey Ferguson Tractors

The history of Massey Ferguson tractors dates back to the 1950s when a powerful alliance was formed between the American Ferguson company, founded by Harry Ferguson, and the Canadian brand Massey-Harris, which had been operating in the market since 1891. The merger of these two giants brought about a revolution in the agricultural machinery industry. The first tractor produced under the Massey Ferguson brand was the legendary MF 35, distinguished by its characteristic red color. In 1959, Massey Ferguson joined forces with the British engine manufacturer Perkins and the Italian tractor manufacturer Landini, strengthening the company’s position in the market. In the following years, the company continued to develop, introducing new models such as the Massey Ferguson 45, which set new standards of efficiency in agriculture. Polish agriculture also benefited from Massey Ferguson innovations when the Ursus Mechanical Works began producing MF tractors under a purchased license. The first of these, the MF 235, is considered a breakthrough tractor for Polish agriculture. Despite initial concerns, Polish farmers quickly realized the solidity and reliability of Massey Ferguson machinery. The acquisition by AGCO in 1994 initiated a new era of brand development, making it part of a global powerhouse in the agricultural machinery industry. In Poland, Massey Ferguson gained a strong partner in the form of Korbanek company, which became the main importer of the brand’s machinery throughout the country. Since 2018, Massey Ferguson tractors have been readily available through a network of dealers, continuing the tradition of quality, reliability, and innovation in agriculture.
